Reps summon Diezani, others over looming fuel crisis

Abuja - The House of Representatives Joint Committees on Petroleum (Upstream and Downstream) and Gas Resources on Wednesday summoned the Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke over a looming crisis in the sector.

Others summoned are Dr Joseph Thlama Dawah, Group Managing Director of the NNPC and the leadership of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

Synagogue Church: Patience Jonathan commiserates with victims’ relatives

Wife of President, Patience Jonathan, has commiserated with families of the victims of the collapsed building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations at Ikotun Egbe, Lagos.

A statement by her media assistant, Ayo Adewuyi, said she was moved by the news that majority of those who died were women and children.

She also expressed sadness over the incident and offered her condolences to the families of the victims and the General Overseer of the church, Pastor T.B. Joshua.

Kano explosion: 15 dead, 34 injured – Police

Abuja – The police said 15 bodies had been recovered from the scene of the bomb blast at the Federal College of Education, Kano, on Wednesday.

A statement issued in Abuja by the force spokesman, acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, said 34 persons were injured.

The statement said two armed men detonated Improvised Explosive Devices in the lecture hall of the college at about 3.30 p.m.“Thereafter, they began sporadic shooting outside the premises.

Synagogue Church: Death Toll Rises To 78 As NEMA Says Number Of South Africans Unknown

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says it cannot confirm the figures presented by South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma, that 67 of his nationals died in the collapsed six-story guest house belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations.

The agency’s spokesman, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, told reporter on Wednesday that the church was yet to present a list of foreigners occupying the building before its collapse to the agency.

Mr Farinloye said that escalation exercise at the site of the Synagogue building may be concluded by midnight of Wednesday.

The Nigerian Health Minister has told the Federal Executive Council that there is “no single case of Ebola” in the nation.

Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu gave the positive report while briefing reporters on the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak containment at the end of the Federal Executive Council Meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday.
