Regina Askia, former Nollywood actress and beauty queen turned Nurse, has shared on her Facebook page that she will be volunteering at a US Ebola Center as a way to help eradicate the fast-spreading virus. According to Regina Askia, the nurses who volunteered are currently undergoing Ebola trainings.

First case of Ebola recorded in New York

A US doctor based in New York who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea has become the first person in the city to test positive for Ebola. 33 year old Dr. Craig Allen Spencer (pictured above) had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea, and returned to NYC on October 17th. He tested positive to the virus at the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York yesterday October 23rd.

Mali’s health ministry on Friday in Bamako confirmed a case of Ebola virus in a two-year old girl, NAN reports.
The ministry said this was coming weeks after Mali has so far been cleared of the disease.

House of Reps Seek Increment in NYSC Allowances

The House of Representatives on Thursday in Abuja passed for second reading a bill seeking an improved welfare package for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The bill seeks to amend the NYSC Act No 51 of 1993 by making provisions to enhance the welfare of corps members, encourage acquisition of special businesses and commercial skills at the end of the annual service year.

A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau state yesterday October 23rd nullified the September 30th general election of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, which saw Mr Amaju Pinnick elected as the President of the NFF.

Boko Haram Releases Abducted Women

There are reports that Boko Haram insurgents, who abducted about 50 women and girls from two border villages between Adamawa and Borno states have freed the women among their captives. This was disclosed in an interview by villagers, who spoke on the issue with newsmen on the telephone from their hide-outs. They however, said that the exact number of those released could not be ascertained, but that no fewer than 45 girls were still being detained.
