Usain Bolt, a six-time Olympic gold medallist revealed he would retire from athletics after the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London.

Scorpion stings woman on plane, delaying flight at LAX

An Alaska Airlines flight en route to Portland had to return to the gate at Los Angeles International Airport Saturday night after a woman was stung by a scorpion, airline officials said.

Medical personnel responded to the woman, who was stung in the arm, according to Cole Cosgrove, a spokesman for the airline. Flight attendants killed the scorpion and searched overhead compartments for "any additional, unwanted arachnids."

Jewish cemetery vandalized in eastern France amid tensions

PARIS (AP) — Hundreds of graves have been vandalized at a Jewish cemetery in eastern France, in what the president called an "odious and barbaric" anti-Semitic act against French values.

Boko Haram militants repelled after attack on northeast Nigeria's Gombe: source

BAUCHI, Nigeria (Reuters) - Heavily armed Boko Haram militants attacked the northeastern Nigerian city of Gombe on Saturday but were later repelled, a government security source said.

Earlier, explosions and gunfire could be heard after the fighters overwhelmed a checkpoint at the edge of the city, which has been bombed before but has never had the insurgents attempt to take it over.

Witness Abdul Hassan said soldiers had run away after the checkpoint was overwhelmed. The militants then burned down a police station on the outskirts of town, he said.
